COLIN PASKELL
Colin Paskell, who recently retired as Chief Executive of Druids Sheffield Friendly Society, died after a short illness on 31 March 2010 aged 67. He was Chief Executive for 20 years and was the only person to serve as president of the Association of Friendly Societies (AFS) twice. He was instrumental in ensuring the trade body’s survival a few years ago. Martin Shaw, formerly secretary of the AFS said from a personal perspective that Colin had taken him under his wing when he joined AFS and always gave his time generously to support the trade body and campaign for the value of mutuality.

Colin was also totally dedicated to Rotary, and was serving as president for the 3rd time. He was given a Paul Harris fellowship award, which is the greatest award that can be given to a Rotarian. This was particularly for his help abroad by obtaining matching grants for impoverished areas.

A devoted family man, Colin leaves his wife Gwen, four children, six grand children and seven great grandchildren.

On the 12 April 2010 a family funeral was held at the United Reform Church West Melton and the Barnsley Crematorium. Following this a service of thanksgiving for Colin’s life was held at Brampton Parish Church where approximately 250 people attended.
