Colin Paskell, the Chief Executive of the Druids Sheffield Friendly Society was the President of the Association of Friendly Societies and held his conference at the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate on the 3-5 October 2008.
Recognising the ongoing commitment amongst friendly societies to improving the financial fortunes of children, Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families spoke at the Association of Friendly Societies’ Annual Conference in Harrogate.
Children from New Park Community School in Harrogate moved their morning lessons to the conference to learn more about money and meet Ed Balls. These children are from the first school years to receive Government CTF’s.

As the leading group of providers of CTF’s and children’s savings schemes, many AFS members are keen to promote financial education for children all ages.
